⚠️ Important Notice

On a B42 update, you will have to wait until an update is ready. After the update has been posted, you can use this guide to update to the latest version.

  • Recommendation: Stay on the previous version until it's confirmed that nothing is broken and make sure you turn auto-update OFF for Project Zomboid in Steam

Step 1: Locate Project Zomboid Folder

Navigate to the Project Zomboid folder in your server files.

Using GPanel:

  1. Click Files - you should see the Project Zomboid folder
Project Zomboid folder in server files

Step 2: Delete the Project Zomboid Directory

⚠️ Critical: Only delete the Project Zomboid folder - do not delete any other folders!

Why delete the folder?
The folder must be deleted because developers sometimes remove files in new versions. Keeping old files can cause conflicts and issues.

Deletion Options (choose one):

  1. Method 1: Click the checkbox on the left of the folder, then click Delete at the bottom of the screen
  2. Method 2: Click the three dots ... on the right of the folder, then click Delete

Step 3: Access Server Settings

Once the Project Zomboid folder is completely deleted, click Settings in your server control panel.

Step 4: Reinstall Server

Click Reinstall Server to download and install the latest version.

Reinstall server button location
Complete! Your server will now reinstall with the latest B42 version.
