This guide covers common issues and solutions for Space Engineers dedicated servers hosted with Legion Hosting, including startup crashes, connection problems, and performance optimization. Server Panel: All server management is done through GPanel at gpanel.legionhosting.net. Check the Console tab for error messages when diagnosing issues.
Server Crashes on Startup
- Check the GPanel console for error messages. Common causes include corrupted save files, incompatible mods, or insufficient memory.
- Try removing recently added mods by editing
Sandbox.sbcand removing their<ModItem>entries. See Space Engineers Mod Installation for details. - If the world save is corrupted, restore from a backup or delete the world folder and let the server generate a fresh one. See the save management section in Space Engineers Server Setup.
Players Cannot Connect
- Verify the server is online in GPanel and fully started (not stuck in a loading state).
- Confirm the player is using the correct IP and port from GPanel's Network tab. See How to Find Your Server IP and Port.
- If the server has a password set, make sure the player is entering it correctly.
- Check that both client and server are running the same version of Space Engineers. Version mismatches will prevent connections.
- If the server is running mods, ensure the player's client can download them. Mod download failures will block the connection.
Poor Server Performance / Low Sim Speed
- Reduce
<MaxFloatingObjects>to56or lower inSandbox.sbc. - Set a
<MaxGridSize>limit to prevent extremely large builds. - Clean up abandoned grids and debris using admin tools (Alt+F10 in-game).
- Disable unnecessary NPCs (
<EnableSpiders>,<EnableWolves>) if they are not needed. - Consider reducing
<ProceduralDensity>if the asteroid count is contributing to lag. - If performance issues persist, your server may need a plan upgrade for more CPU and RAM. Open a support ticket to discuss options.
Performance tip: Very large grids and excessive floating debris are the most common causes of server lag in Space Engineers. Keep
<MaxFloatingObjects> at or below 100 and consider setting a <MaxGridSize> limit on public servers. See the World Settings section in Space Engineers Server Setup for all performance-related settings.
