This guide covers Game Master (GM) setup, server commands, player management, world management, mod support, and troubleshooting for your Wurm Unlimited dedicated server. Wurm Unlimited is a sandbox MMO where players terraform the land, build settlements, and develop complex economies. 1. Admin/GM Setup

Wurm Unlimited uses a Game Master (GM) power system with levels 1-5. Grant GM powers through the GPanel console after a player connects.

Granting GM Powers

#setpower <playername> 5

Relog after receiving GM powers for all abilities to take effect.

GM Power Levels

Tip: Grant level 5 only to the server owner. Trusted moderators should receive level 2 or 3.

The GM Wand

Right-click in the world to access the GM Wand context menu. Use it to inspect tiles/objects, teleport, spawn items and creatures, modify terrain, and manage settlements.

2. Server Commands

Enter commands in the GPanel console or in-game chat prefixed with #.

Player Management

#setpower <playername> <level>Set GM power level (0-5). Level 0 removes powers.

World Management

#spawnitem <itemid> <quality>Spawn an item with specified quality (1-100).

#settime <hours>Set the in-game time of day.
#togglerainToggle rain on or off.
#saveForce an immediate world save.
#shutdown <seconds> <reason>Schedule a shutdown with countdown and reason.

Terraforming

GM level 3+ users can use the GM wand for terrain operations: raise/lower terrain, flatten areas, change tile types (grass, dirt, rock, sand), and adjust water levels.

Terraforming is permanent. Back up your world before performing extensive terrain modifications.

3. Settlement Management

As a GM, you can manage player settlements (deeds):

  • Use the GM wand on a settlement token to inspect details and permissions.
  • Modify permissions and borders through the GM interface.
  • Remove abandoned deeds to free land for active players.
  • Adjust upkeep settings server-wide through configuration.

4. Mod Support

Wurm Unlimited supports server-side mods distributed as .jar files. Players do not need to install anything.

Installing Mods

  1. Stop the server from GPanel.
  2. Install Ago's Mod Loader first (required by most mods).
  3. Upload mod .jar files and any .properties config files to the mods/ directory via SFTP.
  4. Start the server and check the console for mod loading confirmation.

Popular Mods

  • Better Digging: Quality of life terraforming improvements.
  • Crop Mod: Modify crop growth times and farming mechanics.
  • Bounty Mod: Reward players with coins for killing creatures.
  • Server Tweaks: Collection of small adjustments for better experience.
Mod compatibility: Install one mod at a time and test. Some mods conflict with each other.

5. Troubleshooting

Server Crashes on Startup

  • Check the GPanel console for Java errors (often indicate mod conflicts).
  • Remove recently added mods from mods/ to identify the problem.
  • Ensure Ago's Mod Loader is installed if mods require it.
  • If the crash persists, open a support ticket with the full console output.

Players Cannot Connect

  • Verify the server is running in GPanel.
  • Check the correct IP and port from the Network tab.
  • Ensure both server and player are on the same game version.

Slow Performance

  • Reduce MAXCREATURES -- creature AI is the biggest performance factor.
  • Use a smaller map size or reduce MAXPLAYERS.
  • Review installed mods for known performance issues.
  • Consider contacting support about upgrading your plan.
